How CanDate handles your personal information

Last updated: 24 September 2026. CanDate operates in Canada and follows PIPEDA.

What we collect

  • Account data: email, password hash, username, and (if you verify) your phone number.
  • Profile data: age, city, education, occupation, relationship goal, introduction, photos, and anything else you choose to enter.
  • Activity data: likes, saves, profile visits, messages, forum posts, and verification submissions.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, and cookies needed to keep you signed in.
  • Site analytics: Cloudflare Web Analytics records page views, the page you came from, your approximate country and page load performance. It does not use cookies, does not identify you, and is not linked to your account.
  • Contact form: the name, email and message you enter on the Contact page are emailed to the CanDate team and used only to reply to you. They are not added to any member profile.
  • Payment is handled by Stripe. CanDate never sees or stores your card number.

Why we collect it

To run the service you signed up for: showing you members, letting others find you, delivering messages, verifying identity to reduce fraud, processing memberships, and responding to reports of abuse. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your profile content to target third-party advertising.

Who can see what

Your username, photos, city, and the profile fields you fill in are visible to other signed-in members, and may appear on public city pages unless you restrict visibility in Settings. Your email address, phone number, and exact address are never shown to other members. You can switch on incognito browsing or restrict your profile at any time in Settings.

Sharing with others

Only with service providers needed to operate the site (Stripe for payments, Cloudflare for site delivery, security and anonymous visit statistics, our email delivery provider, our Canadian hosting provider, OpenAI for the AI features described below), and where required by Canadian law or to protect someone's safety.

AI features

The AI companion, reply suggestions and the first-message coach are powered by OpenAI, whose servers are in the United States. Only when you use one of them, the text needed to answer is sent there: for the AI companion, your messages to it, what it remembers about you, and some of your profile (city, birth year, occupation, education, introduction); for reply suggestions, your recent messages with that member, including theirs; for the first-message coach, that member's public profile and your draft. Voice replies and AI photos are also generated by OpenAI. The Translate (翻译) button on profiles is also powered by OpenAI: when you tap it, only the self-introduction or answer you chose to translate is sent there — nothing else from either account — and the translation is cached on our server for up to 7 days so the same text is not sent twice. CanDate does not use this content for advertising. You can erase the AI companion's memory and your whole AI chat history at any time under Memory in the chat panel.

Advertising

Some pages carry ads served by Google AdSense. To serve them Google receives your IP address, browser details and the page you are on, and may set its own cookies. CanDate never passes your profile, messages or any account detail to an advertiser. Ads are switched off entirely for AI Pro members, and never appear on the privacy, terms, contact or safety pages. You can control how Google personalises ads at adssettings.google.com.

How long we keep it

While your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile and photos and retain only what we must for legal, accounting, or abuse-prevention reasons. Liveness-verification selfies are used only for review and are never shown in your public gallery.

Your rights

Under PIPEDA you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw consent, or ask us to delete your account. You can download a copy of your data or delete your account yourself at any time in Settings; for anything else, email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. If you are unsatisfied, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

Security

The site is served over HTTPS, passwords are stored only as salted hashes, and sensitive tokens are cryptographically signed. No online service can promise perfect security, and we will not claim otherwise.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy materially we will note it on this page and, for significant changes, email registered members. Questions: [email protected].
